Michelle was raised on her family's rural property, east of Armidale, on the Northern Tablelands in NSW, Australia. After finishing school she headed to Sydney to find work. She returned to Armidale two years later to study accountancy.

She met her husband, a university student from Armidale, through friends. On graduating they moved to Sydney to further their careers. They lived in Newport on Sydney’s northern beaches for just over four years. Travel beckoned so they packed their bags and headed for London. Somehow they ended up staying for four years. During this time they travelled extensively throughout Europe and America, which allowed Michelle to indulge her love of photography.

Since their return to Australia they have resettled on Sydney’s northern beaches, this time in the suburb of Manly. Despite their busy schedules Michelle and her husband have regular trips to her family’s farm. These trips have become more frequent since Michelle and her parents have adopted a mob of brumbies.

It was while she was living in London that Michelle realised she could no longer ignore her desire to write. She enrolled in a writing course and has subsequently undertaken a three month mentorship with Marg McAlister.
